LCK Netherlands: There is only one impregnating agent on the market with a genuine Oekotex® passport

“We have been annoyed for some time by all kinds of unsubstantiated claims from colleagues,” says Henk Proper (photo), owner of wholesale company LCK Nederland BV. Making your company, process or product appear greener than it actually is, or greenwashing, is a regular occurrence in business. “Unfortunately, this happens frequently in our industry. Think of products that are provided with random sustainable stickers and green texts such as: 'best choice' or '100% ecological', without further substantiation,” says Henk. To lure consumers, products have recently even been provided with faulty certificates, such as OEKOTEX® 100. “This is a certificate intended for upholstery fabrics and therefore does not belong on a maintenance product, pure deception,” says Henk.

Fortunately, the Hohenstein Intitut, the renowned German institute that issues the OEKOTEX® certificates, is on top of this and the producer in question has been reprimanded. “As far as we are concerned this is a good development”, says Henk. As a partner and supplier of a large part of the medium-high furniture segment, LCK Nederland has been advocating transparency for some time now. Henk: “In that respect, LCK is at the forefront when it comes to the development of sustainable maintenance products”.
